01 Acceptance of terms
By inviting Mei to a Discord server, using any of its commands, or accessing this website, you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you invite Mei on behalf of a server, you confirm that you have the authority to do so and that the server’s administrators accept these Terms.
These Terms apply together with Discord’s Terms of Service, Community Guidelines and Developer Terms. Where those documents impose stricter requirements, they prevail. Mei is an independent project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Discord Inc.
If you do not agree with these Terms, do not invite or use Mei, and remove it from any server you control.
02 Eligibility
You must meet Discord’s minimum age requirement and have a Discord account in good standing to use Mei. You are responsible for keeping your account secure; actions taken by your account — including commands run through automation or self-bots — are treated as your actions.
03 Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Exploit, probe or attempt to exploit bugs, race conditions or undocumented behaviour in Mei, or use a discovered issue for advantage instead of reporting it.
- Spam commands, intentionally overload the bot, or use macros, self-bots or scripts to generate traffic or artificial activity such as levels, currency or giveaway entries.
- Use Mei to host, organise or facilitate abusive content, harassment campaigns, raids, doxxing, scams, malware distribution or any activity that violates Discord’s Community Guidelines.
- Attempt unauthorised access to Mei’s systems, database, hosting, tokens or source infrastructure, including through credential sharing or reverse engineering for that purpose.
- Resell, rebrand or represent Mei as your own product, or misrepresent an affiliation with the Mei team.
- Use the music engine to stream content you do not have the right to distribute, or to circumvent the terms of a third-party audio source.
- Use automod, logging, tickets or confession features to surveil, expose or retaliate against individuals unlawfully.
Security research is welcome when it is responsible: report vulnerabilities privately through the support server before disclosing them, and do not access data that is not yours.
04 Server administrator responsibilities
If you add Mei to a server, you are responsible for:
- Configuring permissions, modules and log channels appropriately for your community.
- Informing members that the bot processes identifiers and activity data as described in the Privacy Policy.
- Ensuring that features which collect member content — confessions, tickets, chatbot channels — are used lawfully and with appropriate consent.
- Managing whitelists, extra owners and staff access so that only trusted people can change security settings.
Mei’s anti-nuke and automod systems are safeguards, not a substitute for competent moderation. You remain responsible for the conduct of your server and its staff.
05 Service availability
Mei is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose or uninterrupted operation. We do not guarantee 100% uptime.
- Audio streaming depends on third-party sources and Lavalink nodes and may be interrupted by outages, regional restrictions or rate limits outside our control.
- Features may be changed, limited, deprecated or temporarily disabled for maintenance, security or capacity reasons.
- Planned maintenance is announced in the support server where practical; emergency maintenance may occur without notice.
- Free features may remain free, but nothing in these Terms entitles you to a specific feature, capacity, or level of support indefinitely.
06 Termination & blacklist
The Mei team may suspend access, restrict features, or blacklist a user or server — temporarily or permanently — if we reasonably believe there has been a violation of these Terms, Discord’s Developer Terms, or applicable law, or if continued access creates a security, legal or operational risk.
- Blacklists may apply to a user account, a server, or both, and may prevent the bot from joining or operating in affected servers.
- Where appropriate we will explain the reason and the review path; in cases involving active abuse or legal obligations, enforcement may be immediate and without prior notice.
- You may appeal an enforcement action by opening a ticket in the support server. Appeals are reviewed by a maintainer who did not issue the original action where possible.
- You may stop using Mei at any time by removing it from your server; that ends these Terms for that server, without affecting records we must retain for enforcement or legal compliance.
07 Intellectual property
Mei’s name, branding, website design, command structure and original code are owned by the Mei team and protected by applicable intellectual property law. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use the bot within Discord for its intended purpose.
You retain ownership of content you create through the bot — playlists, ticket transcripts, welcome messages, confessions and similar — and grant us the limited licence needed to store and deliver it. Audio streamed through the service remains the property of its respective rights holders; Mei does not grant any licence to that content.
08 Disclaimer & limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Mei team is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, members, revenue or goodwill arising from your use of or inability to use Mei.
This includes moderation outcomes, missed detections, false positives, deleted messages or roles, lost levels or economy balances, and interruptions to audio playback. You are responsible for keeping independent backups of anything you cannot afford to lose, using the backup feature or your own tooling.
Where liability cannot be excluded, our total aggregate liability is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the twelve months preceding the claim — which, for free features, is zero. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
09 Modifications
We may update these Terms as the service evolves or as legal requirements change. Revised Terms are published on this page with a new “Last updated” date and announced in the support server for material changes. Continued use of Mei after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
If you do not accept a change, stop using Mei and remove it from your servers. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in full force.
